A note from a fellow President ElectMary Beth Growney Selene

Hello my fellow Rotary Club Presidents-Elect. My name is Mary Beth Growney Selene and I am President Elect of the Rotary Club of Madison West Middleton.

I joined Rotary in 1987, the first-year women were admitted into membership. What a thrill that was! I first served as my Club’s President in 1993-1994. To this day, my service as Club President was my best and proudest Rotary year ever.

Since that time, I have had many Rotary leadership opportunities and I have seen our organization change for the better, each step of the way.

Following my year as Club President, I served as an Assistant Governor, District Governor, Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator, Rotary International Director, and Trustee of The Rotary Foundation. Through each step of my journey, I have enjoyed and gained so much knowledge of Rotary by actively engaging in the training/learning associated with my new and upcoming position.

District leadership for 2025-2026 will be reaching out to all of us shortly and inviting us to register for our Presidents-elect Training Session (PETS) which will be held February 28th – March 2nd, 2025.

At the Midwest PETS website, we are reminded that PETS will be “Prepping us for Success”. I hope all of you agree that “success” in our Clubs is what we want.  There is no better way to gain new insights, learn from our peers, and make new and lasting friendships, than by attending OUR Presidents-elect Training – together.

Rotary is changing every day.  The world is changing every day. As Club leaders, we need to be in a position to embrace and promote these changes, to ensure our members have the Rotary experience THEY hoped for when they joined our Club.

We will learn more about how to INCREASE OUR IMPACT (locally and globally), EXPAND OUR REACH (in our own and other communities), ENHANCE OUR OWN MEMBER’S ENGAGEMENT, and INCREASE OUR ABILITY TO ADAPT (as a Club and as an organization).

Our own participation at PETS is essential to our Club’s success. If you are Club President-elect as a new member to Rotary, a long-time member of Rotary, a Past President of your Club – or another Club, and, even if you are serving a Club President this year – your participation is essential! What each of us individually brings to and takes away from PETS will be transferred to the overall vitality of our Clubs.

I am looking forward to Midwest PETS 2025 and I hope to see all of you there – so we can build on the successes of those who have gone before us and to enhance the foundation of our Clubs for those who follow.

Thank you,

Mary Beth Growney Selene
President-Elect, Rotary Club of Madison West-Middleton
